Community Guidelines

House Rules &
Resident Responsibilities

These guidelines ensure a safe, respectful, and dignified living environment for all residents.

I. Core Conduct and Sobriety

  • Zero Tolerance Policy: This facility maintains a 100% drug and alcohol-free environment; any resident who returns to using alcohol or illegal drugs will be subject to immediate expulsion.
  • Nuisance Activities: Residents must not engage in activities that disturb the peace, including loud noises, harassment of neighbors, vandalism, or illegal drug activity.
  • Good Neighbor Policy: Residents are expected to be respectful neighbors and responsible citizens at all times.

II. Safety and Emergency Procedures

  • Exit Training: All residents must be shown the location and use of all emergency exits within 24 hours of arrival.
  • Fire Safety: Residents must participate in mandatory fire and evacuation training at least twice per year.
  • Equipment Integrity: It is a violation of house rules to tamper with hard-wired smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, or fire extinguishers.
  • Flammables: No gasoline-operated equipment or flammable supplies may be stored inside the facility.

III. Health, Sanitation, and Maintenance

  • Personal Space: Residents must keep their sleeping rooms clean and free of dust and dirt. Clothing must be stored in provided drawers or hanging spaces and never on the floor.
  • Trash Removal: Residents are responsible for placing trash in watertight, covered containers; garbage is removed from the premises at least once per week.
  • Kitchen Use: The kitchen must be maintained in a sanitary condition; residents must observe proper hand-washing methods when handling food.
  • Laundry: Soiled linens and laundry must be bagged or placed in hampers and may not be transported through or stored in food preparation areas.

IV. Medication and Personal Care

  • Self-Administration: Residents must be capable of self-administering their own medication. Staff assistance is strictly limited to reminders and helping open containers.
  • Locked Storage: All medications must be stored in the provided central or individual locked storage areas.
  • Personal Care Limits: Residents must be able to eat, bathe, dress, and move independently. If a resident requires assistance with these "personal care services," they must transition to a higher level of licensed care.

V. Financial and Administrative Rules

  • Payment Standards: Residents are responsible for paying their Equal Expense Share (EES) or rent portion on time as outlined in their service agreement.
  • Financial Integrity: Residents and staff are prohibited from borrowing or loaning money to one another.
  • Access to Records: Residents have the right to access their financial and facility inspection records within 48 hours of a written request.

VI. Resident Rights and Support

  • Freedom from Retaliation: No resident will be harassed or threatened for reporting allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (1-800-252-5400).
  • Communication: A telephone is available 24 hours a day in a private area for resident use.
  • Visitation: Visitors are welcome in public areas but must adhere to the same conduct standards as residents.
